App Icon Screensaver

Summary

A macOS screensaver concept that animates all installed app icons arranged in rotating 3D stacked decks against a black background.

Visual description

A horizontal row of thick 3D app icon tiles is arranged like a fanned deck against a pure black background, each viewed from an angle so their edges and thickness are visible. The tiles show varied colors and styles, including purple, blue, white, black and pink designs, with a compass, a podcast mark, a chart line and a glossy orb among them. The center tiles are turned nearly edge-on and become thin slivers, while those at the sides open up wider, which makes a symmetric curved rhythm. The icons are small within the frame, with a lot of empty black above and below.

Key takeaway

Rotate a repeating set of identical-format tiles around an axis so each one shows a different angle, which turns a plain collection into a rhythmic 3D object on a black stage.
