Summary

A stark black on white loop that states the identity's core idea in two moves: an ordered grid of arrows swings around like compass needles, then dissolves into circles that gather along a single thin horizon.

Visual description

On a plain white field, roughly seven columns by four rows of thin black arrows sit on an even grid. They rotate together but not identically, each row lagging the one above so the field ripples as the whole set sweeps from pointing up and right, through vertical, to pointing left and finally down and left. At the turn of the loop the arrows shorten and swell into solid black filled circles at wildly different diameters. The regular grid breaks: the large circles rise into the upper half and cluster in loose groups of two and three, the smallest ones drop below, and a single hairline horizontal rule appears across the middle of the frame with circles resting on, above and just under it. That constellation holds and drifts gently for the middle stretch of the loop. Then the circles shrink away almost to nothing, reappear as arrows scattered at first and then back on the grid, and the rotation resumes. There is no type, no color and no background texture at any point.

Key takeaway

Morphing one primitive into another, direction into presence, gives a brand a motion idea that is also a static idea, so posters and animation can share the same vocabulary. The thin horizon rule is the whole trick in the second half: it converts a random scatter of dots into a composition with ground and sky.

Reuse notes

A model for a festival or civic program that needs an endlessly recombinable graphic device rather than a fixed illustration. Pure black on white keeps it cheap to apply across print, screen and signage and leaves room for photography elsewhere in the system. It carries no message alone, so it needs a typographic layer, and the arrow grid can read as a weather or traffic diagram if the rotation is slowed down too far.
